This past weekend I migrated the entire DME Resources site to a new platform and updated multiple components, including member profiles, member chat, member messaging, our HelpDesk and Downloads. A few new features:
I'm looking to pick up an HD camcorder disguised as a contact lens which accepts microSD behind my earlobe, but I'm not finding anything. Go figure. Until then, I'm thinking of picking up an HD pocket camcorder. You know, something the size of the Flip but in HD.
Still image capability isn't that important to me for this thing, but I would like decent 720p HD video under various typical lighting conditions (e.g. nothing extreme). SDHC storage would be ideal.
To be honest I was thinking a fully decked out RED rig until my wife walked by, shook her head and smiled. I don't think she even knew that I started my search looking for a sub $300 pocket camcorder, and ended up looking at a camera rig that would cost about as much as our last car. What I can say is that I'm pretty sure she was thinking "I dare you, you silly little man." 😄
This year I helped Ocean Systems introduce a new 3-Day training class titled "Fundamentals of Video Evidence Recovery & Processing (FVRP)". The course is designed for anyone who recovers, handles, processes or disseminates Digital & Multimedia Evidence (DME), regardless of prior video evidence training or experience.
The course is based on industry Best Practices and focuses on obtaining the Best Evidence, and learning how to quickly get accurate images & video out for investigative leads. It is predominantly hands-on, and will expose students to various Ocean Systems and Open Source solutions that can help.

We've already been hands-on with NVIDIA's first Kepler GPU, but all those fancy features count for nuthin' if the benchmarks don't back them up. So do they? Huh? Do they? NVIDIA told us to expect a 10 to 40 percent performance boost from the $499 GTX 680, versus AMD's pricier Radeon HD 7970, and it appears that was no exaggeration.
SanDisk on Wednesday announced a Secure Digital card that can store data for 100 years, but can be written on only once.
The WORM (write once, read many) card is "tamper proof" and data cannot be altered or deleted, SanDisk said in a statement. The card is designed for long-time preservation of crucial data like legal documents, medical files and forensic evidence, SanDisk said.
Do you use a YubiKey or the Google Authenticator app? The latter is free, and now you can use either of them to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) here at DME Resources.
Simply log-in and choose "Edit Profile" from the Control Panel, then select your preferred method from the drop-down options for "Authentication Method".
Follow the prompts that will be shown to configure, then press the "Update" button displayed at the bottom of the page.

It seems like an easy question, and when posed as such those asking it clearly want make & model info so they can just add one to their wish list or pull the trigger and purchase it. Purchasing a PC for almost any need should take a little more thought than that though, especially when it comes to multimedia processing needs.
Understanding the hardware requirements for the software applications you intend to leverage is key. Minimum specs, GPU & I/O driver support of course, and more should be taken into consideration. This is also a great time to consider improvements throughout your multimedia workflows, looking for opportunities to save even more time with a new configuration (e.g. transcoding, data transfer, storage & backup efficiencies, etc.).
"The world is changing so quickly, that it's really hard for a standard to keep up. So when we introduce new protocol delivery or new codecs or new content protection inside the Flash player, we can effectively bring that new technology to at least 50 percent of the market within three months," said Kevin Towes, product manager for Flash at Adobe, speaking at a red-carpet interview at Streaming Media East. "There's not many technologies that can make that claim."
As USB thumb drives and memory cards get larger and cheaper, it's getting easier to trust much more of your data to them. It's also much easier to mistakenly erase data or have them hiccup on you. And if you're in the habit of holding on to that data for too long -- for example, not transferring photos from your camera's memory card -- disaster is almost guaranteed to strike at some point. What happens then?
Digital Forensics Certification Board - Certification Phase II Begins June 14th
ORLANDO, Florida, June 4, 2010 – The Digital Forensics Certification Board (DFCB), an independent certifications organization for digital evidence examiners, today announced plans to launch a fully automated application process to keep up with the demand for this significant certification.
On March 2nd, 2009, the DFCB officially launched its highly anticipated certification program that offers two levels of professional designations and its limited “Founders Process” for initial certifications. The DFCB offers Digital Forensics Certified Practitioner (DFCP) and Digital Forensics Certified Associate (DFCA) designations from its independent, community-driven organization. With one hundred thirty five (135) certified individuals thus far, the manual application process was not optimal, given the burgeoning demand!
When looking for the source of a malicious infection on a computer network, a digital video recorder (DVR) might not make it on the radar of a malware fighter. That could be a mistake, according to one security expert.
Avid will be releasing a new version of Pro Tools soon that will be entirely free, called Pro Tools | First.
