Back in August I announced we'd be launching DMEpod, and I later stated that I hoped to have the first episode out in October. Well, that ain't happening so get over it...'cause we've got LIVE streaming coming your way baby!!!
Media-Geek TV will be streaming forensic multimedia news and training content 24/7, and DMEpod episodes will be cut from the channel and distributed via podcast monthly (or so). All of the behind the scenes stuff is going to take some time to get worked out, so I'm personally setting January as our official launch date, but we're already loading and broadcasting content, and periodically running LIVE test events.
I've got to tell you, the testing is just plain fun, and I'm really excited to get others on board and contributing. While the channel will predominantly feature pre-recorded content (and a growing on-demand library), the possibilities related to the LIVE event streaming are endless! Think association, working group, or committee meetings...round table discussions...LIVE training with multiple instructors...LIVE interviews with industry vendors, engineers, and analysts...and so on. Geek or not, that is just plain cool.
Maybe I'm a bit naive, but I'm sticking to the all volunteer concept, and hope you'll consider participating.

You know what they say – the old has gone, and the new has come. Mozilla has just announced that they will be retiring their Firefox 4 browser – strange, isn’t it, considering Firefox 4 shipped a mere three months ago. Well, at least Firefox 5 is now the de facto browser from Mozilla. Tuesday’s Firefox 5 release also saw Mozilla spell out the list of vulnerabilities it patched in that edition alongside 2010′s Firefox 3.6, although there was no mention of any bugs fixed in Firefox 4.
On Wednesday, March 9th at 10:00 AM PST (1:00 PM EST) I will be hosting a LIVE online tour of the members area. This brief tour is to provide new and long-time members with a quick overview of navigating the members area and locating the multiple resources within. Today, after nearly fifteen years of developing personal & business Web sites, I'm launcing Media-Geek.com. While Media-Geek.com will certainly serve as the successor to my personal business site (larrycompton.com) and I am always excited when deploying a new site or layout, I am even more excited about the community-based functionality that is to come.
I should point out that this is a pre-launch of Media-Geek.com, which allows me the opportunity to test the various components and functionality in the exact environment where it will be fully deployed. All of the content from my previous site(s), as well as a ton of additional functionality will be published with the official launch. If someone uses the phrase "DVD Quality Video" in their marketing literature it usually means one of three things; (1) their product is crap, (2) they haven't the slightest clue about DVD-Video standards, or (3) they do understand the standards and are simply trying to mislead you...and their product is crap.
Now maybe I'm being a bit harsh here, but I take offense when companies attempt to mislead the "typical" consumer by using generalizations. The fact of the matter is that there are several standards for DVD-Video, along with other variables that can impact DVD-Video picture quality.

A few weeks ago, I signed up for Amp'd Mobile service, and shortly thereafter received my new Kyocera Jet multimedia phone via FedEx. I was immediately very impressed with the look, size and form factor. I've always been a flip man, but I'm very keen on this slider from Kyocera.
The new OS is very cool, user friendly, and customizable. The Amp'd multimedia service is pretty sweet, effectively replacing my previous phone, mp3 player, and even the game system for short trips, etc. The microSD capability adds even more value, as you can simply transfer your existing content from the PC using the provided SD adapter. It should be noted that you cannot transfer purchased music from iTunes to the device or card as it is protected; however, you can rip CD tracks all day long or transfer other unprotected content (music, vids, images) - supports mp3, aac, mp4, 3gp, 3g2, m4a, and m4b file types.
Upgrades, system migration, support headaches -- IT folks are probably dreading the next major Windows rollout. Yet Windows 8, which is scheduled to move to the beta stage in late February and will likely launch in the fall, does offer several compelling new features for both IT and end users.
