Among the presentations scheduled for LEVA's International Video Evidence Symposium & Training Conference are two that will focus on video and imaging in Iraqi combat operations.
BIOMETRIC IDENTIFICATION ON THE FRONT LINES: The Next Tool In The War On Terror. Presentation and open forum discussion on biometric identification being employed in military combat theatre operations. Highlighted will be the evolution of warfare through the employment of forensic identification in combat environments. Several forms of forensic identification will be featured, including case studies in forensic video that were presented before the Central Criminal Courts of Iraq. The cases were used hand-in- hand with fingerprint identifications to establish a solid foundation for forensic ID acceptance in Iraqi courts. They were the catalyst for the profound impact forensic identification would have in Operation Iraqi Freedom, which ultimately led to a significant decrease in IED encounters among coalition troops. Presenter: Michael Hullihan, former Biometrics Lab Manager for the Combined Explosive Exploitation Cell, the task force unit responsible for Counter IED intelligence.
SHOOTING BACK: IN COMBAT ARMED WITH A CAMCORDER: It's challenging enough working the streets of cities where the threat of criminal acts keeps law enforcement officers on alert. And then there are the streets and surrounding areas of Tikrit, Iraq. There, dedicated military men and women trying to bring and keep the peace face acts of terrorism and all-out combat. Every day. Now picture yourself on the front lines with a camcorder to document those encounters. Do you have what it takes? Find out what street combat is like in a region of the world where the impact of tragedy is captured not only in one's memory but also on tape. Presenter: John Kibler, Forensic Science Specialist, Kentucky State Police. Formerly with the US Army's 101st Airborne Division, he now serves in Army Public Affairs when called to duty with the Kentucky Army National Guard.
