DME ResourcesIn the last few weeks, we've added several new features and content areas to Media-Geek, and more are on the way. Some of these updates are specific to our members only area, while others are available to both the public and private sections of the site; such as our new customizable home page.
By default, the new home page displays recent articles from a few of our content areas, such as Member Articles, Media-Geek News, Larry C.'s Blog, and Newsflashes. Both members and visitors can change the number of articles that are displayed on the home page for each of these areas, and they can also re-order the way in which they are displayed using the drag-n-drop icon in the upper-right corder of the display for each area.
Do You Have a Blog or Podcast?
We've also added a new content area under News & Articles called Member Blogs. If you're a registered member, send us a link to your blog or podcast and we'll include your recent posts in this area via your syndication feed. Members and visitors can check out excerpts from your recent posts, then follow the linked title to your site for the full article.
If you don't have a syndication feed or know how to set it up, simply give us a shout via our contact form and we'd be happy to help.
New Stuff for Members Only
New JAVA Based FTP Client
You may have noticed we've removed our various browser-dependant links to the FVA FTP site and incorporated a new JAVA based FTP client, which automatically connects you to the FVA FTP site. This new browser-based FTP client provides all of the functionality found in most stand-alone FTP clients, which means not only can members browse the FVA FTP site more efficiently through our site...but now they can also upload to it!
Recently Added Files & Programs (uploads)
Under the Files & Downloads section we've included a list of the most recent uploads to this section right on the main page, so members can immediately see what was recently included and made available for download.
New "Check It Out!" Area for Member Profiles
The new "Check It Out!" tab allows members to include banners, images, badges, or any custom HTML to their member profile page. Members can add content to this area by simply clicking the "Edit Profile" button on their member profile, then selecting the "Check It Out!" tab. Enter your code or text and...presto! You've customized your new "Check It Out!" tab.
Submit Content Menu Help
Submitting content to Media-Geek is extremely easy, although it can be somewhat overwhelming at first, as there are multiple ways to submit content to various areas of our site. Whether or not it looks perfect or is posted to the right place in the "proper" way isn't important. What is important is that we all participate. To that end, we've added a new page that explains the various options available under the "Submit Content" menu. The number one rule when submitting content is...
Be Bold - Dive In & Contribute!
Don't worry about making mistakes. Errors can be corrected later, and we're all here to work together and learn from each other. Our successes, here as well as in the field, office or lab are and will always be directly proportional to how well we work together and how many contribute or participate.
The "Be Bold" concept applies to everyone from analysts, technicians, and engineers to vendors and manufacturers. It's okay to talk about your products or services; we want to know what your working on, what training you're providing, when you are or have released a new version of your widget, as well as whatever else you're up to...so don't be shy! With that said, when you talk about your product's capabilities be prepared to back-up your claims, prove your concepts, and field questions from both your prospective customers or even your "competition". 
If you and I always agree on everything, then one of us isn't really necessary.

Let's be honest, we're not always going to agree, but we should be able to agree to disagree amicably. We're all professionals working in very technical fields, many of which that are, despite decades of history, still in their infancy. Questions, suggestions, and constructive criticism are strongly encouraged; stone throwing and unjustified derogatory comments are not.
So what are you waiting for? Go ahead already, start contributing! 
Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.
